Challenge: [ Write a story or poem about young love. ] Written by © Genta They were never meant to be. They were more star-crossed than Romeo and Juliet. But they were determined to make it work. A night of passion had caught up with them. They swore to finish high school. Alex worked nights washing dishes and Alicia worked the early morning shift at UPS. They took a small apartment downtown. Their landlord was sympathetic. He remembered being right where they were. Their rent was $50 a week or whatever they could spare. Ms. Rosa always brought over some type of food. Alex and Alicia were grateful. Alicia often wondered if she and Alex would last. Alex was from a well to do family. She was scared his parents would come around and she would be left with raising their child. But then she would look into his green eyes and everything would be okay. Alex debated those long nights of washing dishing if he should just admit that he was in over his head. He should go to his parents and ask for forgiveness. But he would have to give up Alicia, the only who saw him for him. He would have to settle for limited if no time with their child. He would catch Alicia humming a time and knew things could work and everything would be okay. They were never meant to be. Two kids from opposite sides of the track that were more star-crossed that Romeo and Juliet. Alicia and Alex, determined, made it work. She was a registered nurse and he was a pharmacist. Times were rough and hard but they survived. Their parents came around and they were married. They looked out into their yard and noticed the children and grandchildren. They laughed about old times and all they went through. They were grateful for their landlord even Ms. Rosa, too. They held each others hand and knew everything would be okay.
