Below are the challenges for July.


July Monthly Challenge
Due July 31, 2006
Pick a song, any song and rewrite the lyrics… 

you can make it a funny song or whatever. 

But the song should stick with the original music… have fun!!!


July 8th Challenges

Write a "Dear Diary" entry using these 10 words: 
Flower, waiting, iridescent, gray, grain, ponder, trickle, alabaster, autumn, light

Write a tongue twister

Write a short story about confusion with an eight-year-old adopted boy 

as the main character and a rose as the key object; the setting is a bus station

Write a Japanese Tanka, 5-7-5-7-7 syllable form, to include these three words:
edge, restless and soul

Write a short story based on the phrase "Twist of Fate"

Create a villain with superpowers. What is his or her back-story? Why did he or she choose evil or good?

Write a short story with the main character getting married when something goes terribly wrong

Write a poem or short story using the following words: 
bellboy, bread, backseat, envelope, farmer, needle, racecar

Write a poem or short story with the title, "Immune to It"

Write about the day you declared independence from your parents... (if you can't remember, be creative)

Write a poem or short story using all ten of these words:
harmony, infant, gravity, messenger, brilliant, solider, darkness, companion, pompous, enemy

Write a poem or short story with the title, "Headlights in the Rain"

July 22nd Challenges

Write a story about buying a gift for someone special. 

As the cashier gives you change,

 you notice a message with specific instructions

 scribbled on one of the bills. What did the

 instructions say? Did you carry them out and if so, how?

You’ve invented a new soft drink that

 not only tastes great, but also improves 

a person’s ability to [fill in the blank]. 

Write an advertisement for your new soda

Write a news story based on the following headline:
Magician defines odds and escapes from local prison

Write a poem or short story using at least 6 of these 8 words:
Angel, beads, turkey, chocolate, stones, paper, Kleenex, frog

Write a poem or short story using all the following words:

Write a short story about Spring told in the

 first person from the perspective of a sunflower

Write a short story based you traveling in a rental car 

when you hear the thumping of a flat tire. 

You pull over and discover the thumping is

 not coming from a flat, after all, but

 from the trunk, what – or who- is making the noise?

You've been living a life filled with lies and

 it's time for you to come clean.  There's one

 lie in particular that's been eating at you 

and you have to make right. Start off your 

response with: "I have a confession to make. 

I never really . . . " and explain the harm the lie caused and how 

you intend to rectify it. You can write in a short story or a poem.

The country is in dire need of another 

holiday that everyone can celebrate, 

and the government has given you 

the task of picking it. What event will 

you add to the holiday calendar 

and why? You can write in a short story or a poem.

Your friend asks to borrow a couple of your CDs. 

While rummaging through your collection, 

the two of you stumble upon what you consider 

to be the most embarrassing album that you own. 

You definitely don’t want your friend to know 

that you actually like that record, so make up an excuse 

as to how it got in your collection. The more elaborate 

the reasoning, the better. You can write in a short story or a poem.
